Gabriel Meyer | Director Deneys Reitz
Gabriel Meyer is a Director of Deneys Reitz and part of the Africa Legal team.
Gabriel works primarily on cross-border corporate, commercial and banking matters in Africa (including South Africa), and has recently been involved in the following transactions
• Restructuring the Celpay Group of companies, a cell phone banking services provider with operations in Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia (Celpay is a subsidiary of FirstRand Bank);
• Debt and equity investments and business purchases in East and Southern Africa for Aureos Capital, an emerging markets investment fund;
• AIG Global Emerging Markets Fund II L.P. acquisition of a minority stake in the Blue Group of companies, a micro finance lender with operations in Botswana, Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia;
• Commodity trade financing transactions in East Africa for Rand Merchant Bank;
• Advising Globeleq on the restructuring of one of its power distribution interests in Africa;
• Advising FMO in relation to a loan facility with an East African borrower.
Gabriel spent several years studying and working in Switzerland where he completed the Swiss higher education certificate (Matura). Gabriel has an LLB from the University of Cape Town and is fluent in German and has basic French.
