Deneys Reitz / Africa Legal continues Africa drive
Deneys Reitz has recruited senior banking and finance lawyer Steven Gamble from major international firm Norton Rose to join its Africa Legal subsidiary as a Director. Steven headed up Norton Roses English law banking and finance capability in Thailand, having previously worked in the firms London, Singapore and Hong Kong offices. This high-level appointment “demonstrates the firms Africa focus and continues the rapid development of its pan-African practice”, says Deneys Reitz Chairman, Michael Hart. “Our decision to invest in our pan-African and international capabilities, made some years ago, has been vindicated and is obviously meeting the needs of our international and South African clients”. The move builds on the firms success last year, when it was awarded the African Law Firm of the Year award by Chambers & Partners, ahead of major international heavyweights such as Linklaters, Clifford Chance, Norton Rose and White & Case. Kevin Cron, internationally recognised leading M&A lawyer, received the award on behalf of the firm at a ceremony held in London in November.
Africa Legal co-founder Julian Jackson, formerly with Clifford Chances International Projects group, says “Stevens appointment will underpin Africa Legals excellent positioning in the legal market by bringing further international finance experience to our strong capability in finance and commercial work. Steven will be a valuable addition to our African team”.
Steven is one of two recent appointments by Africa Legal. South African qualified associate Melanie Murcott joined Africa Legal in September 2007.
