Africa Legal advises FirstRand in acquisition of Celpay International
Africa Legal advised FirstRand, a major South African bank with extensive operations throughout Africa, in its recent acquisition of Celpay, a mobile payment operator based in Zambia and DRC, from Celtel International.
The transaction, which was signed on 18 March, is conditional on Reserve Bank approval. This deal is an important part of FirstRand´s African expansion strategy, and is intended to support the emergence of a new generation of payment methods and introduction of new banking products in Africa.
