Recent deals Africa Legal has advised on include the following:

  • Aureos Capital – Aureos Capital is a leading emerging markets private equity provider to small and medium-sized enterprises. Africa Legal has recently advised Aureos Southern Africa Fund in respect of its recent equity and shareholder loan investment in Tofo Public Cellular Payphones (Pty) Ltd, a leading provider of GSM cellular phone lines to retail merchants in South Africa, and we are currently advising Aureos West Africa and Aureos East Africa Funds in respect of further prospective investments in their regions.

  • Enterprise Banking Group – We acted for Enterprise Banking Group (“EBG”), a new SME focused banking group based in Botswana, in respect of its first capital raising from international investors (US$5m). We also performed a detailed legal risk and governance review of EBG´s cornerstone investment in East Africa, Fina Bank in Kenya, to ensure best international practice as part of Fina´s transformation into a leading local bank. We are currently advising EBG in respect of further prospective investment opportunities in sub-Saharan Africa.

  • FMO – Africa Legal advised FMO in respect of its debt and quasi-equity investment in Black Stone Tek, a leading South African manufacturer of high performance motorcycle wheels for the international market. We are also currently advising FMO in respect of a proposed investment in Kenya.

  • Globeleq – Africa Legal has advised Globeleq, the fastest growing power company in the emerging markets, in relation to various of its power-related projects in Africa, including Umeme Limited, the Ugandan power distribution company, and Kelvin power plant in South Africa.
