Pan-African Trade Financings

Deneys Reitz / Africa Legal continue to advise various clients in relation to commodity trade financings throughout Africa. Recent instructions include advising ABSA, Rand Merchant Bank (both leading South African banks) and Louis Dreyfus Africa (an international trading company) in separate transactions (some ongoing) in relation to various trade financings, including petroleum products in Zimbabwe and Zambia and Tanzania; sugar supplies to Mali; financing maize, maize seed, fertilizer, various cereals and foodstuffs to government and parastatal corporations in Zambia and Malawi; telecommunications equipment financing in Côte d´Ivoire; supplies of buses and omnibus parts, and bus monitoring equipment to Côte d´Ivoire; acquisition of foodstuffs and food-processing equipment, to Gabon, maize financing and trading in Kenya, Malawi and Mozambique, and coffee financing and trading in Uganda; advising Citibank, Rand Merchant Bank and Barclays Bank in regard to proposed $60 million trade financing for foodstuffs for an Angolan parastatal corporation; financing by Investec of imports for a SA Breweries subsidiary in Mozambique.
