Rail
Scope of our rail practice
We are one of the few global legal practices able to provide the all-round service needed by today’s rail companies. We offer our clients in the rail industry the benefit of in-depth experience, gained from all sides of major transactions. We are one of the world’s leading transport practices.
Our rail practice has developed out of a close involvement with the UK privatisation process in the mid-1990s. Building on work undertaken at that time in relation to the leasing, maintenance and movement of rolling stock as well as on the complex arrangements for spares provision, we have successfully expanded the practice to encompass regulatory, infrastructure and light rail work, whilst maintaining the leading position among legal practices in the business of rail finance, rolling stock acquisition and leasing in the UK. This expertise is now being channelled into successful growth of the practice in similar business areas in other countries.
As the structure of the UK rail industry continues to evolve, the market for legal services in the UK continues to develop. This evolution, together with more positive moves towards rail privatisation in other countries, offers opportunities across a range of practice areas where our specific industry knowledge and traditional strengths come to the fore.
